Julia & Jarrod

Sometimes the only way to fill our winter bones with warmth is to tell the tales of weddings far away. Weddings where the sun always shines, the beach is close by and you’re more than likely going to end up drinking tropical cocktails and jumping in the pool by midnight. This is what holiday wedding dreams are made of.

Julia and Jarrod knew how to make it an epic celebration – they planned a welcome dinner, a recovery barbeque and made sure that every bit of the holiday goodness was squeezed out of it. With a stunning gown Julia designed with the help of d’Italia, a linen suit just the ticket for beachisde groom inspiration for The Suit Issue and bright and beautiful photos to capture it all from Alma Photography, we’re pretty sure you need to get those feet bare and settle into this tropical tale!

After meeting on Tinder, these two headed out for a first date, proclaiming it a success when they were still out at 2 am! It took another few years for Jarrod to seal the deal with a proposal. “It was all sneakily planned by Jarrod!” shares Julia. “We were spending a long weekend in Noosa to celebrate our third anniversary. Jarrod sneakily organised a sand sculptor to create a beautiful sand castle with the words “Julia, will you marry me?” carved in the front of it. Jarrod was assured it would be at a quiet part of the beach, however upon arrival, there were about 30 people standing around waiting for the impending proposal with their iPhones ready to go. A kind Noosa retiree, named Neil, recorded the entire proposal while wearing only his red Speedos..!”

Julia couldn’t find her dream gown in store, so worked with d’Italia to create it! She tells  “I had a specific idea of the dress in mind so I purchased my fabric from d’Italia and went to a dressmaker to create it! I wanted something comfortable, nicely fitted and not too heavy to wear. I loved that I designed my dress as it was exactly what I wanted and knew it would suit me. I felt so comfortable in it on the day which I think shows through in the photos.”

The beautiful Villa Infinity has enough space for a ceremony, cocktail hour and an outdoor reception. The bride sharing “We chose a big villa in Canggu to hold the wedding ceremony, cocktail hour and dinner. It was big enough to hold our 100 guests for a sit-down dinner outside and to have separate areas for the ceremony, cocktails and dinner which made it feel like a different venue at each stage of the night.

Live music was a huge focus of the day, one of the groom’s friends playing The Beatles “Here comes the sun” as the bridesmaids began their walk down the aisle.

“I walked down to “The Girl” by City and Colour” remembers Julia. “It’s a song that when we both heard it played a year ago we knew this was the song. My dad walked me down the aisle. He was so proud!”

The ceremony, officiated by Michael Roberts was kept short. “We didn’t want our ceremony to go for too long, being mindful of the guests sitting and standing out in the heat. We kept it pretty lighthearted and casual with some deep parts where it counted. We wrote our own vows too which kept it nice and personal.”

Tells the bride of their chosen photographer “We love his modern and fun photography style. He was very easygoing on the day, a nice calming presence to have around.”

Tropical locations call for tropical blooms, Kintan Florist creating the floral details of bright, beautiful blooms like orchids and birds of paradise. “I wanted bright, fun, tropical flowers that made a bit of a statement” explains Julia. “I love orchids and bird of paradise so I had these as well as other local flowers and some beautiful tropical greenery as well.”

A tropical celebration calls for a convertible! “We hired a convertible VW type 182 to take us down to the beach for some photos after the ceremony. It was a lot of fun to ride in and spend a few special moments together as fresh newlyweds!”

“Music is very big in our lives so we wanted to make sure we got this right! ” shares Julia. “We had a Balinese Reggae band (Ulu Roots) play for the cocktail hour. This set a really nice relaxed vibe while the sun was setting. Everyone loved them!”

Julia and Jarrod hired Long Table Events to bring their destination wedding to life, the bride remarking “We had an incredible wedding planner, Emma who made everything happen in the lead up to the day and on the day.”

A sit down feast was catered by Saigon Street Bali, much to the guests’ delight. “Apart from our amazing wedding planner, we were so happy with our food. Saigon Street Bali catered the food and drinks and they were just incredible! There was so much delicious food, it was super fresh and everyone loved it. They did an amazing job with the cocktails and worked the bar all night long!”

Like the rest of the wedding, the first dance was  casual! Julia explaining “Our first dance was to one of our favourite songs called “Resolution” by Matt Corby. We didn’t have anything choreographed as that isn’t really our style. We had our bridal party and their partners join us a little bit into the song, then everyone else.”

We just can’t get enough of these destination vibes, luckily for us, Joseph Willis was there to capture it all on film!

A big congratulations to you both Julia and Jarrod! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us. Thank you also to Alma Photography and d’Italia for sharing today’s gorgeously fun tropical celebration.
