Chloe & Harrison
Clear blue skies danced above Chloe and Harrison as they married in the Blue Mountains on a cold winter’s day. The gorgeous wedding was celebrated with their nearest and dearest, and with a beautifully theatrical and regal reception. Folk + Follow captured the day.
Chloe and Harrison first met through a mutual friend. The bride remembers, ”I was instantly intrigued by his banter and remember thinking, ‘who is this tall, green eyed, curly haired cheeky guy?’ Whenever he threw a sneaky comment my way I instantly threw something back. Over a few months our banter grew and I came to love the way we interacted and the way he made me laugh.” The groom shares of how he proposed, saying, ”Having been together for over ten years I knew this proposal had to be something pretty special. For Chloe’s 30th birthday we went to New York. As an art teacher Chloe is passionate about the arts, so I thought it would be fitting to take her to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for her birthday, and when we had made our way to the rooftop, with views of Central Park, sculptures and the New York City skyline, I proposed to Chloe with a diamond ring I had designed for her. The day was all the more special because we had our family there to witness the event and celebrate with us.”
The bride’s breathtaking gown was clean cut and dramatic. She shares, ”I had a distinct design in mind that I could not find anywhere. I wanted a cape and a classic look to my dress! My inspiration came from 70’s dresses and also from Solange’s wedding dress. Because we wanted to organise our wedding in 3 months whenever I did go into a bridal shop I was always left feeling like I was in trouble due to the quick turnaround. That’s why when I walked into Belle Bridal five weeks before the wedding I felt a wave of relief that they said that this was not a problem at all.” The groom wore a burgundy suit from Topshop, fortuitously finding the exact cut and colour he had been searching for, the last one left his perfect size!”
The Australian scenery was on full show at Leura Weddings, where Chloe and Harrison held their intimate ceremony. They share, ”We have always loved the Australian landscape and knew that we wanted that to be a big part of our special day. Our ceremony took place at the Leura Amphitheatre, high above the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Mountains overlooking the Jamison Valley. We wanted our siblings to be with us on the day. Harri had his brother Yul as his best man whilst my sister Sandra stood with us on the day as my maid of honour.” A solo cellist picked ‘Air on a G String’ by Johann Sebastian Bach as the bride walked down the aisle with her father and dog Munchkin leading as flower girl.
Adding a luxe and moody element to the day, the wedding bouquets and flowers were put together by The Little Flower Shop. The bride tells, ”The flowers we chose were all Australian natives, in romantic reds and gorgeous greens, from the cream boutonnières of the men and even the gorgeous greens framing and draping the reception venue.” Special moments of the day were celebrated, such as the couple combining parts of each of their surnames to symbolise their new family, and future together. They share, ”We wanted to make sure that our dog was a big part of our wedding as she is also a big part of our lives. Our pup was our flower girl and we made sure that she had pride of place throughout the entire wedding!”
Starting the party early, the bride and groom booked out an entire cinema the night before their wedding for their family and friends. They remember, ”With popcorn and cocktails in hand we started the screening of a little pre-wedding video about us which then followed on with a movie that truly bonded us and is one of our all time favourites, ‘Heart and Souls’. Anyone who knows us knows that we love going to the cinema, so it was such a special experience to share our love story on the big screen with our loved ones.”
Photographer Folk + Follow captured the romantic wedding day with epic style. Chloe tells, ”Since we started planning for our wedding Elynne was an amazing help, even introducing us to our fantastic priest who travelled 500km to preside at our wedding! They made us feel so comfortable and we felt like we had known them for years! Our guests picked up on their lovely manner as well! They also chauffeured us between the different venues and sites.”
The wild Blue Mountains landscape paired beautifully with a lush and romantic reception. The bride shares, ”We definitely had a ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, regal, theatrical Art Deco vibe going on, and we wanted to focus our colours around these dramatic dark reds and gold. We also love the Australian native landscape and that’s why we fell for the Leura Amphitheatre the moment that we saw it, and we tried to incorporate native flowers and plants wherever we could in our reception and stylings.”
She Designs put together a romantic feast for the reception, which was simply gorgeous! Chloe tells, ”Our reception was held in the Megalong Valley Community Hall which had a beautiful view of the mountainside and even a bonfire. The hall provided a beautiful rustic setting for our guests which our stylist took full advantage of by creating a breathtaking scene filled with vibrant greens and deep reds to make a luscious wilderness. The party even spread outdoors with a decadent vintage seating area near the roaring fire pit. The Redpepper Catering team cooked a sumptuous feast that exceeded all of our expectations. We really wanted a family feast vibe and to ensure that there was a variety of foods for our guests. Food was served on lavish platters that made sure our loved ones could enjoy as much food and drink as they wanted to. The combination of the opulent decor and extravagant spread filled our reception with a joyful atmosphere and set the tone of an intimate family feast.”
Absolutely thrilled with how the day came together, the bride and groom were impressed with all of their chosen vendors. They tell, ”All of them went above and beyond for our wedding which helped to make it such a special and wonderful memory. Every one of our guests was blown away by our dear friend Adam Rogan from The Vintage Stylus and his amazing selection of tracks. He really went the extra mile to make sure we had the perfect soundtrack to accompany us on our special day. Barn Owl Films made sure to stay that little bit extra to ensure that all the best bits of the day were captured and our stylist made all of our visions and dreams a reality for our wedding day.”
