Miller & Geordie

It was a childhood trip to Italy that inspired the grand celebration of Miller & Geordie’s Toowoomba day. “When I was 13, my family and I travelled to Italy for a relative’s wedding which was held on a beautiful Italian estate. I have been in awe of that wedding since I was 13 years old.”

The happy couple chose the beautiful Gabbinbar Homestead to set the scene for a day “which included as many fairy lights, crystals and sparkles as possible!” The pair inviting the talented Kate of Quince & Mulberry Studios  to ensure every magical moment was caught.

These two first laid eyes on one another across a crowded dancefloor, they’d been inseparable ever since, and it was on the couple’s fourth anniversary that Georgie proposed, Miller, filling us in on the story. “Geordie organised a surprise dinner date to celebrate our fourth anniversary. He picked me up from work in the Brisbane City and we drove to Mount Coot-Tha Lookout. He led me over to the lookout which had uninterrupted sparkling views of the city, handed me a written letter and asked me to read it out aloud. The final words of his letter were “I just have one more question for you…”. When I looked at Geordie to ask him what his question was, he was already down on one knee holding a box with the most beautiful oval-shaped diamond ring I had ever seen. Geordie had also organised for our parents to be waiting at the restaurant bar to congratulate us before Geordie and I enjoyed dinner at The Summit Restaurant.”

The couple chose to stay and celebrate at the historic Gabbinbar Homestead, a dream for many years of bride Miller, who tells “A couple of years before we were engaged, we saw a photo of the magical Gabbinbar Homestead and from then on, it was our dream to get married there. We are both from Brisbane, Queensland, and we loved the idea of a semi-destination wedding. Gabbinbar Homestead is a heritage-listed estate that has a beautiful old Queensland house in the centre of the estate and picturesque grounds. We were fortunate that the beautiful blue-stone cathedral built-in 1889 was not far from the venue as we wanted a Catholic service and loved the streams of light that beam through the coloured stained-glass windows.”

Miller donned sparkly jewels from Roman and French with Badgley Mischka heels, sharing “My mum and I travelled to Sydney to visit Roman and French for my wedding accessories. We picked a stunning sparkling princess tiara with a pattern that perfectly matched my dress. I also wore stilettos from Badgley Mischka. The more sparkles, the better!”

The bride chose her Demetrios gown after her mum spotted it in a magazine, recalling “My wedding gown was designed by Demetrios Bridal. It was a slimline dress covered in beautiful lace with a swirl/heart pattern and sparkles. It also had a detachable tulle skirt which I loved because it gave me the option to experience wearing a traditional train for the church service and a party dress for the celebrations. After Geordie and I got engaged, my best friend from high school/maid of honour bought me an engagement gift filled with “Mr & Mrs” gifts and bridal magazines. My mum, maid of honour and I were sitting around the kitchen bench flicking through the magazines looking at wedding dresses. My mum opened to a page and pointed at a picture and said: “that’s your dress”. By that evening, we had already sourced a stockist. When I tried the dress on, I knew it was THE one. Even though I tried different designers and many other styles just to be sure, I kept coming back to that first original dress that I fell in love with, and to this day, I know it was the perfect dress for me.”

The beautiful blooms of the day were styled by The Luxe Bloom. Miller remarking  “When we first met our florist Amanda, from The Luxe Bloom in Toowoomba, we were very excited to hear that she owned and lived on a flower farm. Our bridal party bouquets, church pew decorations, table decorations and the halo of flowers hanging from Gabbinbar’s conservatory were a mixture of white and blush pink flowers, greenery and sparkling crystals, of course. They were the most beautiful flower arrangements and complimented everything we chose from the bridal attire, the church and also Gabbinbar.”

Miller and Geordie chose St Patricks Cathedral, Toowoomba for their ceremony, Miller picking a very special song to play as she walked down the aisle with her father, telling “My wonderful father walked me down the aisle to the song “Angels Brought Me Here” by Guy Sebastian. I’ve always felt the presence of my guardian angels and my mum and I had always dreamed that I would walk down the aisle to that song. The moment exceeded all of my dreams.”

“We had a traditional Catholic marriage ceremony” explains Miller. “Geordie and I sat in the sanctuary of the Cathedral which was very special. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen were welcomed through the gates when we read our vows and signed the marriage register. We then dedicated the song “The Prayer” by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli to our grandparents who have passed. It was a very special and spiritual touch and we’ve been told there was not a dry eye in the church. Our priest encouraged everyone to celebrate when he pronounced us as husband and wife and it was a magical moment. We loved every minute of the ceremony.”

Remembers Miller “When our guests were congratulating us after the ceremony outside of the church, my Nonna pulled us aside and threw glitter confetti on us. Thankfully our photographer was right beside us and captured the moment which is special to me. ”

Georgie and Miller adored working with photographer Kate. “Kate is AMAZING. She was able to understand us as a couple capturing the style and flow of our day perfectly. Our photographs speak for themselves, they are natural and encapsulate the very best parts of our day from morning until midnight. Kate was professional and calm and I felt very confident knowing that she would create a mixture of candid and portrait photographs for us to cherish forever.”

The reception kicked off, once the vows were complete, back at Gabbinbar, tells Miller. “Upon arrival, our guests were ushered into a chandelier-lit pavilion and enjoyed champagne, strawberries and chocolates where they greeted us with our first toast of the day.” As the wedding party took photos around the grounds, guests enjoyed cocktail hour complete with garden party vibes and an amazing grazing table, and marquee reception. “We were very happy with each and every one of our vendors.” gushes the bride. “We enjoyed meeting and getting to know each of them throughout the wedding preparations. It was great to be able to rely on their expertise to ensure everything was perfect. The day was seamless.”

The bride designed much of the wedding decor herself, working closely with her mother to make sure everything was full of sparkle! She shares “Yes! My mum and I had never attempted a DIY project before but by the time the wedding came around, we were experts. We had so much fun together. We created a feature wall with wallpaper, Swarovski crystals and chandeliers to be placed behind the sweetheart table that Geordie and I sat at during our reception dinner. We also turned two antique red velvet dining chairs into white love seats with Swarovski crystals. My mother-in-love also wrote in calligraphy on glass windows to create our table seating list. But my favourite would have to be the sparkling chandelier wedding cake table that we created which gave the illusion that the cake was floating. There were many more DIY’s!”

“We loved travelling to Toowoomba to meet with wedding planners and vendors” shares the bride. “I loved being able to create, design and style the day to be everything that we love. My mum and mother-in-love played a huge part in the wedding planning and preparations as well. We loved being able to spend time together planning our magical day which became the fairy tale I had always dreamed of.”

The couple’s first dance was to a favourite childhood song of the grooms, Miller explaining “Geordie and I chose the song “All My Life” by K-Ci & Jojo for our first dance. Geordie chose this song as it was a song he grew up loving with his family. We created our little dance routine with a few twirls, lunges and lifts. Halfway through the song, fireworks set off above the see-through glass ceiling of the conservatory ballroom which created the magical feeling of sparkles falling out of the sky. It was an incredibly special and emotional moment for us, we felt like we were dancing under shooting stars. The fireworks caught many of our guests by surprise and their captivated reactions were caught on video which is priceless.”

Storyteller Films were also there to capture Miller and Geordie’s special day.
